This adventure also includes time in the culturally rich cities of Albuquerque and Santa Fe. Learn about New Mexico’s 19 pueblos (villages) and shop for authentic crafts at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico’s largest city, founded in 1706 as a Spanish colony. Stop for lunch at a diner on historic Route 66 and hear about the famous Manhattan Project at the National Museum of Nuclear Science. Then travel along the picturesque Turquoise Trail through the foothills of the Sandia Mountains to the capital city of Santa Fe and see sights like the San Miguel Mission, the State Capitol and the Loretto Chapel’s “Miracle Stairway.” The adventure ends with a visit to El Santuario de Chimayo to hear about the storied healing powers of this Catholic shrine that attracts thousands of pilgrims each year, followed by a Farewell Dinner featuring the tastes of the Southwest and Southwestern entertainment.

Balloons in air at Balloon FiestaToday is all about the world-famous Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. What began as a gathering of just 13 balloons more than 47 years ago has grown into the largest ballooning event in the world. You’ll be up early to witness this morning’s pre-dawn Opening Ceremonies and the unforgettable Mass Ascension. Led by a balloon flying the American flag and blasting the National Anthem, hundreds of hot air balloons will take off at once to make a colorful panorama in the Southwestern sky. While on the festival grounds, refresh and relax throughout the day in our private hospitality tent, where a buffet breakfast and snacks will be served. Visit the International Balloon Museum, dedicated to the art, culture, science, history and spectacle of ballooning. Head to a traditional New Mexican restaurant for a tequila tasting, followed by lunch. Return to the hotel in the afternoon to rest up for a very exciting evening at the Balloon Fiesta. Tonight you’ll catch the popular Balloon Glow, where all participants turn on their burners and light up their balloons at the same time, followed by a sparkling fireworks show. Breakfast and lunch are included today; overnight in Albuquerque.

Sunday, October 11, 2020 — Albuquerque
66 Diner on Historic Route 66Today discover Albuquerque, founded as a Spanish colony in 1706 and now New Mexico’s largest city. Visit the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, a fascinating museum and crafts market collectively run by the 19 New Mexico pueblos (villages). Learn about the pueblos’ history and the background and lifestyle of its inhabitants. Next see Albuquerque’s Old Town and historic Route 66, and eat lunch at the 66 Diner, an authentic 1950s-style eatery. This afternoon explore New Mexico’s legendary covert military projects, including the Manhattan Project, on a guided tour of the National Museum of Nuclear Science & History. Monday, October 12, 2020 — Albuquerque – Santa Fe
Road from Albuquerque to Santa FeTravel along the Turquoise Trail, a 54-mile scenic drive that passes through the foothills of the Sandia Mountains. See Central New Mexico’s wide-open spaces and dramatic scenery on your way to Santa Fe, New Mexico’s capital city and the oldest seat of government in the United States. Founded as a Spanish colony in 1610, it has at its heart the traditional Plaza. Experience this city up close as you embark on a guided trolley tour that includes sights like the San Miguel Mission, the Palace of the Governors and the State Capitol. Stop at Loretto Chapel to admire its mysterious spiral staircase and learn its history. When the chapel was completed in 1878, there was no way to access the choir loft 22 feet above except by ladder. Legend has it that the Sisters of the Chapel made a novena to St. Joseph, the patron saint of carpenters, and shortly thereafter a man appeared with a donkey and a toolbox looking for work. Months later, the elegant circular staircase was completed, and the carpenter disappeared without taking any pay or thanks. The design of the staircase was innovative for the time, and some of the design considerations still perplex experts today. Your accommodations tonight are at the Hilton Buffalo Thunder Resort, a 587-acre oasis located just 15 minutes from downtown Santa Fe. This luxury property features a spa, 27 holes of championship golf, tennis courts, a high-rolling casino, indoor and outdoor pools and gourmet dining opportunities onsite. The rest of your day is free for you to enjoy the resort’s amenities, or see more of Santa Fe on your own. Breakfast is included today; overnight in Santa Fe.

El Sanctuario de ChimayoTuesday, October 13, 2020 — Santa Fe – Chimayo – Santa Fe
This morning take an excursion to nearby Chimayo, founded in the 17th century by Spanish settlers. Visit the El Santuario de Chimayo Catholic shrine, a small church founded in 1816. Learn why more than 300,000 Native Americans, Hispanics and people of other cultures visit the church annually. Some come in faith, some out of curiosity, but most come hoping to find miracle cures for their physical or emotional pains, illnesses or disabilities. Return to Santa Fe Plaza for lunch at a celebrated restaurant featuring New American West cuisine. Enjoy the afternoon at leisure to explore the plaza or return to your resort. This evening, enjoy a festive Farewell Dinner with Southwestern-style entertainment. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included today; overnight in Santa Fe.

Wednesday, October 14, 2020 — Santa Fe – Albuquerque
Your adventure ends with breakfast this morning and transfers to the airport.
