The anticipation of knowing you have a great vacation planned can build excitement. But being spontaneous can be even more exciting. Find out just how much fun it can be to surprise your family with a vacation. These tips can help you get away on the spur of the moment.

Family vacation-1

Choose a destination that’s popular with everyone
If your family is into thrill rides, plan a trip to your favorite amusement park. There’s nothing more disappointing than expecting to go racing on the rails of a roller coaster only to end up at a history museum. The best way to enjoy a vacation without planning is to make sure everybody will be happy with the surprise.

Try not to drop any hints
If you’re constantly asking for other’s opinions on things that could be considered vacation related, you just might get caught. If your family thinks they’re going on vacation, there could be a lot of sleepless nights thinking about the day of departure. Be tight lipped and take care of things behind the scenes. After all, you want your surprise to really be a surprise.

Family vacation-3

Make sure there are no scheduling conflicts
This one requires a bit of planning ahead on the part of the person planning the surprise. First and foremost, make sure your spouse can be away from work during the time of your surprise vacation. If you have to reach out to his/her boss, do it. Also, pick a time the kids will have a break from school. And be sure any extracurricular activities like dance classes and band practice are on hiatus. When you know everyone is free from commitment, it makes it a lot easier to announce a surprise.

Family vacation-4

Plan a creative way to announce the vacation
You could be sneaky and tell the kids you’re dropping dad off at the airport for a business trip. Once you get to the airport, you can let the cat out of the bag by telling everyone it’s actually a family vacation. Or, you might pretend that mom is off on her way to a spa weekend getaway with her friends. Then, instead saying goodbye, you’re saying hello to family time at your favorite theme park. The sky is pretty much the limit when it comes to spilling the beans. So, get creative, and have fun with it.
